I am thinking of installing Debian on Galileo mainly to reap the benefit of using apt-get to install new software on the Galileo board. I like the Galileo hardware but if you would allow me to be frank, hate the Galileo software ecosystem based on Yocto. It is so hard to get new software installed if the package is not available to opkg. I do not want to return to Raspberry Pi because I still like the Intel hardware.
Now, to the real point. Does installing Debian on Galileo means I will have the flexibility of apt-get in UBuntu to install new software? For example, I tried to install java in Galileo but have tremendous difficulty in doing so. If I install Debian, would a simple apt-get install java solve the problem?
Is the link below the best one for installing Debian?
Thank you very much for your answers.
